DayBreaks for 09/16/13 – He Done Took Out After Me
NOTE: Galen is just back from vacation. New DayBreaks will resume tomorrow, but until then, here’s one more “recycled” DayBreaks!:
There’s a story about a young black boy in Memphis, Tennessee who wanted to join a conservative, fundamental church. The deacons were examining this boy to determine if they’d let him join. They asked him, “How did you get saved?” The boy answered, “I did my part, and God did His part.”
The deacons thought that they had him, so they asked him what his part was and what was God’s part. He said, “My part was the sinning. I ran from God as fast as these rebellious legs would take me and my sinful heart would lead me. I ran from Him. But you know, He done took out after me ‘til He done run me down.”
I like this story. I think we can all identify with this young man. Our lives are a story of running in rebellion from God, but of a faster God who runs us down with His never-failing love.
You may think that God was the one who was missing but then was found – that you found Him. Not so. Jesus came on the ultimate mission to seek and save the lost. God chose us in Him before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1). God is the original seeker.
We may be tempted to wonder why God would choose to seek US…after all we’ve done. I like what Charles Spurgeon once said, “God chose me before I came into the world, because if He’d waited until I got here, He never would have chosen me.”
It doesn’t matter why God “took out” after us. All that matters is that He did!
PRAYER: Glory to You for Your pursuing, seeking love! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
