DayBreaks for 05/29/12 – Disappointed?
When is the last time you were disappointed? Chances are it wasn’t very long ago…maybe just minutes. Sometimes our disappointments can be rather minor: going to the cupboard in the morning to discover that there’s no coffee. Perhaps it was when you got to the office and learned that someone else took credit for something you did and you are disappointed in their lack of integrity and of the gullibility of the boss.
Some disappointments, however, are much more significant: hoping to hear the word “remission” but not, hoping to hear back from your spouse “I love you” but hearing instead, “I want a divorce. I don’t love you anymore.”
Disappointments are common and they are all disheartening and painful. We hope for the best, willing to settle for what is good, but wind up with something less and we hurt. Disappointment is one of the worst things humans experience, I believe. That’s why I find the words of the apostle Peter to be so wonderful: 1 Peter 2:5-6 (NASB) – …you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For this is contained in Scripture: “BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.”
The latter part of this verse describes a coming day when disappointment will be vaporized. Is it “pie in the sky” or just hopeful thinking? If it were just a human being who made that statement, we would do well to be skeptical. But it is not a human who makes that statement – it is God Himself who promises that anyone who believes in Jesus WILL NOT be disappointed. What we hope for, what we long for, that which we can only dream of in our strongest and deepest heart – we will receive. No matter what we face in the meantime, God says we will not be disappointed, that we will know and experience even more than what we hope for.
Disappointment, like death, will die at the hands of the Father!
PRAYER: Father, thank you for your great and precious promises, the guarantee that we shall not be disappointed for anything we do in following Jesus, nor will we be disappointed in the end, for we shall know that it was all worth it! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I Am 2 is now engaged in a project to provide temporary shelter, food, water and adult care to 37 orphans in Migori, Kenya. We are trying to raise up an army of compassionate people who will each contribute whatever they can – even $5-10 each, to help us provide care for these children until our partner in the project, BrightPoint for Children, can secure sponsorships for these 37 kids. If you want to contribute, follow this link and scroll down to find the “Donate” button: Help the 37 Migori Orphans
